BGSU Firelands


The College

Bowling Green State University Firelands College, one of seven undergraduate colleges, is located in Huron, Ohio, and home to the Departments of Applied Sciences, Humanities, and Natural and Social Sciences. The College offers 59 scholarships and 124 awards totaling more than $120,000 annually. The library has more than 30,000 volumes and is computer-linked to libraries on the main BGSU campus and throughout Ohio via OhioLink. About 75% of the campus has wireless network access and distance education technology enhances educational opportunities by providing access to coursework for place-bound and time-bound students.

Bowling Green State University’s accreditation by the North Central Association ensures that credits earned at Firelands are transferable to most other colleges and universities. Thus, with a wide variety of programs to choose from, BGSU Firelands is an ideal place to begin exploring the many options available to you. We also offer personalized academic and career advising to help you discover an academic major or program that fits your interests and abilities.

The Faculty

BGSU Firelands has 38 full-time faculty (61% with a Ph.D. or the highest degree awarded in their field). All full-time faculty in general studies and bachelor’s programs have a regional, national or international reputation in their field of study. All full-time faculty in technical and paraprofessional areas have a master’s degree or Ph.D. as well as employment-related experience.

The Programs

The Department of Applied Sciences offers occupational and technical associate degree programs, as well as certificate programs that are designed to prepare students for employment. These programs provide skilled and educated employees who contribute to the area's workforce and economic expansion of the local community. Continuation of study beyond the associate degree program is available in many of the degree areas, which are designed to enable students to succeed both in the workplace and then advance their careers by continuing in management related bachelor degree programs.

The Degrees

At BGSU Firelands you can choose from 16 two-year associate degree and eight four-year bachelor degree programs, all of which can be completed right on the Firelands campus. Associate degrees prepare students for transfer to bachelor’s programs or for entry into the job market in a technical or para-professional area. BGSU Firelands also offers master’s degrees in education and nursing, plus one-year certificate programs that provide quick entry into the job market. We also offer individual courses to help you upgrade your skills and improve your job status, or you can take classes just for fun.
